What are the criteria for Varsity Lettering?

The criteria for earning a Varsity Letter may need to be modified each season, as the environment, program, and circumstances change.

The criteria for this season are here.

What is a "Contact Day" in the summer pre-season?

The Ohio High School Athletic Association bylaws (for schools that are members) allow for only a specific number of days between June and August (usually 10 for volleyball), where coaches can provide specific volleyball education and/or training.

Any volleyball specific instruction by any volleyball coach in the program to any player counts as a contact day (eg. the J.V. coach training on Monday and the Varsity coach doing so on Tuesday counts as two days).

General conditioning, student coordinated play, and open gyms are not considered 'Contact' days.

Does my daughter have to ride the bus back to CSG after an away match?

See the CSG Athletics and/or CSG Student Handbooks for protocol; it states:

Transportation

School policy is that all student-athletes and coaches travel to and from away competitions via school transportation

Student-athletes may leave a competition site ONLY with their parents/guardians and only after checking out with the coach

When does the season start and does it conflict with basketball or field hockey?

The active competitive season normally starts the same week school starts and runs until the end of October. The Middle school season starts approximately the same time, and will end a little sooner than the end of October.

Our Volleyball season normally doesn't conflict with basketball; however it does coincide with field hockey. Talk to your coach and discuss arrangements if you wish to try and be active in both Volleyball and field hockey.

I have an issue, problem, and/or disagreement with the coach; how should I handle this?

See the CSG Athletics and/or CSG Student Handbooks for protocol; if there is conflicting information then that source supersedes what we have written here.

Athletes

Discuss your concerns with your coach, in an environment removed from any emotion that may have caused the concern (e.g. discussing play time concerns immediately after a match is NOT a good idea). Inform the coach that you would like to discuss something (verbally, e-mail, text, etc.) and get agreement as to the time; we commit to having that discussion with you no later than the next practice.

If you feel your concerns have not been adequately addressed, then we encourage you to setup additional time for discussion between the coach and your parent(s); we commit to having that discussion no later than the next practice.

If you still feel your concerns have not been adequately addressed, then you and/or your parents should discuss the situation with our Athletic Director, and s/he will determine what needs to happen next (further discussions, changes, etc.)

Parents

If your concerns are such that they can be shared with, or are known by your daughter, then follow the "Athlete" protocol above.

If your concerns are inappropriate to share with your daughter, then inform the coach that you would like to discuss something (verbally, e-mail, text, etc.) and get agreement as to the time; we commit to having that discussion with you no later than the next practice.

If you still feel your concerns have not been adequately addressed, then discuss the situation with our Athletic Director, and s/he will determine what needs to happen next (further discussions, changes, etc.)
