We will practice on Wednesday AND Thursday of this week (trying to get 2 practices in before our tournament  this weekend). Setting specific drills start at 6:00; the rest of the team begins practice 6:30 - 9:00 (the COVBC website probably won't show us there for Thursday, but I've spoken to Holts about our Thursday practice).

 

At practice on Wed. (and Thursday), I will try and finalize who wants to do the KIVA Louisville 3-day Memorial Day tournament (24, 25, 26 of May). Please have your answer.

 

Also, we have our third tournament on Saturday at Renaissance VBC, 5725 Canal Road, Valley View, OH 44125.

We play our second tournament on Saturday, at Xavier University Schmidt Field House, Winding Way, Cincinnati Ohio, 45207.

We may have inclement weather, so allow enough time; we certainly do not want to drive if conditions are dangerous. We will have to wait to see how the conditions turn out.

Check the site with the directions and pool information here, before leaving; I will call if we cancel. Assume we are participating if you do not hear from me; call me if you have doubts.

 

Also, check out the team statistics page here; I've updated it with the numbers and charts from our last tournament. There appear to be some inaccuracies I hope to be able to address, but for the most part, the parents did a fine job!

Stat Sheets

I have published volleyball stat sheets and instructions here.

I leave it up to the parents and players as to if we are going to record statistics or not for the season.

I also leave it up to the players and parents to determine the mechanism used to record the statistics (players record them, or parents record them as they watch).

Usually what happens is that the players say "yes; we want to see our published statistics", and the players' parents record the stats (so the players can concentrate on the match).

This works out well, since

	The players can get objective feedback on their progress
	The parents can get to know the game
	The parents can get to know the players
	The parents can (perhaps) stay involved in the game in ways that reduces some stress levels
	I can use the stats to objectively determine what the team needs to work on.

I will bring clipboards and stat sheets to tonight's practice; that way, the players (or parents) can practice recording stats, if the team decides to do so.

 

Coach Doug Mace will be filling in for me for the following tournaments:

3/16/08 OVR Jackson HS, Massilon, OH.
(I will be with my daughter at the Mideast Qualifier in Indianapolis).

4/6/08 OVR Ashland HS, Ashland, OH.
(I will be with my daughter at the Ursuline tournament).

4/20/08 OVR Cardinal Stritch HS, Oregon, OH,
(I will be with my daughter at the Marion tournament).

I will make sure he has copies of our lineups and such (but you'll be in good hands).

 

We have an opportunity to have a BIG Finish at the KIVA Memorial Day Tournament

As some of you have heard me say before, I (and other coaches in our club) feel that this 15-Black team is just-shy of having what it needs to be a 15 National team. We expect it to be one of the better Regional teams we have fielded in many years (if the team applies itself the way we expect).

Also, in looking forward to playing as 16s next season, we believe that members of this team are (or will be) capable of more advanced play.

That being said, I have been approached by the Club to end our season with a small taste of what it is like to be a National team, by playing in the 3-day KIVA tournament in Louisville, May 24, May 25, and May 26.

This is an ADDED tournament to our schedule.

The tournament entry fee is $450 per team (I'm pretty sure). This adds a cost of about $45 per player, (plus your own room and board). Players could travel and stay together to reduce hotel charges.

(We would not make this offer if we felt the team would not be able to compete well at this tournament).

Mull it over, and check your commitments; see who can and cannot and let's have a decision the week after our 3rd tournament (16 March) (or sooner (the hotel rooms close to the play sites fill up)).
